Roof damages are inevitable. The frequent changes in weather condition will eventually take its toll on your roof no matter what material it is made of. Rain, snow, wind, and rust will weaken it and before you know it, your roof is leaking.

During the 12th century, King John of London issued a law to replace thatch and reed roofs with clay tiles to prevent the spread of fire. After more than a century, concrete tiles were used as roofing material.

If you observe your own house, you will notice that there are many home improvement work that should be done but are often disregarded. Minor faucet leaks are often ignored until they begin to flood the shower room. Or a flickering light bulb is not changed until it stops blinking and is completely busted.

It is probably human nature that people put off things until the last possible minute. It is only on the “eleventh hour” when people set themselves into action. Garage gate drum is an important component of a garage door. They are grooved components, which fit on the last part of the torsion spring shaft. These are the components that permits the cables to wind and unwind, causing the heavy door to lift. There are two drums in a garage door, each of which is located on top of each track at the left and right side of the door. Bear in mind that these can become dirty, particularly if the area is often left open. They can also become rusty and weaken the door. So it’s always recommended to keep your garage door in the “down” position when not in use.

Even though it is a nice thing to lubricate the moving parts of a garage door frequently such as drums, take care not to apply silicone spray or liquid oil directly to the drums. An excellent safeguard plan is to spray the springs and torsion bar with a lubricating spray every six months.

WD-40 or any generic versions are found to work just fine. As the steel cable runs through the tracks, the lubricant will get spread onto them. This lubrication is more than enough for the drum. The first objective is to maintain the clearance between the moving and stationary parts of a brake in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Disassemble and inspect the brake periodically and examine the parts for wear, cracks, warpage, corrosion, elongated holes, etc. If any of these or other faults are indicated, repair, recondition, or replace the affected parts in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. Surface cracks on the friction surfaces of the brake drums occur frequently due to high surface temperatures. These surface cracks may be disregarded as seriously affecting the airworthiness until they become cracks of approximately 1 inch in length.

Hydraulic aircraft brakes

For proper hydraulic aircraft brake maintenance, periodically inspect the entire hydraulic system from the reservoir to the brakes.

Maintain the fluid at the recommended level with proper brake fluid. When air is present in the brake system, bleed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Replace flexible hydraulic hose which has deteriorated due to long periods of service and replace hydraulic piston seals when there is evidence of leakage. Service anti-skid units according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Keep the working parts of mechanically operated brakes free from dirt and foreign matter so the brakes can work freely at all times. Slack in the linkage system must be kept to a minimum.
